In February of 2015, Cynthia Sheppard Bell, Ph.D., OTR/L and Megan Edwards, Ph.D., OTR/L presented an inservice to the staff at Asilo Madre Teresa de Marillac on methods of assessing risk and methods of preventing falls.

CRECER develops workshops for people with disabilities their family and professional staff. Elaine Keane, OTD, OTR/L has experience teaching in a variety of university and community settings and has worked with several local organizations throughout the years to equip them with strategies and occupational therapy techniques. We frequently present at local organizations in Ibarra, Ecuador, in an effort to increase their quality of services and capacity for care. Students, professors, and volunteers, alike, have all contributed to and/or facilitated successful training sessions in cooperation with CRECER.

Past sessions have included:

  • How to deliver OT services to developmentally disabled adults

  • Risk assessment and fall prevention for caregivers and staff of elderly group homes

  • The value of athletic activity for disabled populations

  • Information about diagnosing and treating nerve injuries
